Have You Checked Your Blood Pressure?
Written by: J. Jiyanu - Holistic Health Coach
“Checking your blood pressure could be the difference between, knowing you have a good health or bad health”
Blood pressure is something that we sometimes really pay attention to or something that we chose to ignore. regardless your choice of attention, it is important to check your blood pressure. Checking your blood pressure is a great indicator of your overall health. With that being said for those that have health conditions might check their blood pressure more than someone who is healthy. However for you to understand how to check your blood pressure you must understand what blood is itself
Blood pressure is basically the force of blood that flows in between the wall of the the arteries. Some people have different levels of blood than others, no matter the case, everyone should strive to have a normal blood pressure of 120 mm Hg systolic and 80 mm Hg diastolic.
systolic blood pressure is when your body is pumping blood from the heart to the rest of the body, while diastolic blood pressure is when the heart is at a rest and is receiving blood back into the heart. If your blood pressure is to higher than 129 mm Hg and is higher than 80 mm Hg diastolic you then have hypertension.
Hypertension is the precursor to man diseases and health conditions, if spotted earlier in your life you can be able to reverse the affects through lifestyle changes. if spotted later damage might have been sever, although still possible the individual would have a harder time returning back to normal physical state if the damage is not sever. Hypertension is when your blood pressure in your arteries are persistently elevated
Causes Of Hypertension
Lack of exercise
Smoking
Obesity
High salty diet
A lot of alcohol consumption( more than 1 to 2 drinks per day)
Stress
As you get older
Genetics
Chronic kidney disease
Adrenal and thyroid disorders
Sleep apnea
DAMAGES DONE BY HYPERTENTION
If left untreated hypertension can change your life in negatives you wouldn’t dream of, here are 4 major things that you can get when your hypertension goes unchecked
1) Vision loss
Hypertension can cause damage to the petite delicate blood vessels that support that supply blood to your eyes. With that being said by hypertension doing this to the blood vessels, this can cause damage to your retina (retinopathy), fluid build up under the retina (choroidopathy), eye nerve damage (optical neuropathy).
2) Stroke
When Hypertension occurs, caused by cholesterol build up, starts to create blockage in the arteries. a stoke occurs when the arteries in the brain are blocked.
3) Heart Damage
High blood pressure can cause serious damage to the heart. when hypertension occurs the force of blood doesn’t flow as easily because of cholesterol build up , and then block in the arteries of heart is what can cause a heart attack.
4) Kidney Disease
The kidneys assist in filtering wastes and extra fluids from your blood, they do this by using a lot of blood vessels. ]When the blood vessels become damaged, the nephrons that filter your blood don’t receive the oxygen and nutrients they need to function properly. Untreated hypertension can cause arteries around the kidneys to narrow, weaken or harden. These damaged arteries are not able to deliver enough blood to the kidney tissue, thus resulting in kidney failure
Overall it is very important to check on your blood pressure, and is even more important that you live a healthy lifestyle. You check your blood pressure by going to your local family doctor or you can even check your blood pressure with a blood pressure monitor (sphygmomanometer). As you age your blood pressure will naturally rise that is why its also important to live the healthiest lifestyle you can.
